Piers Williams

I am 50. As a young child I lived in Japan. I was educated at boarding schools in England, (same prep school as Prince Charles (!), and joined my parents one holiday a year in Hong Kong, spending the other holidays with my grandparents and sometimes my parents in Sussex. I did a years junior College as a fine arts major in California, and then went to Chelsea and Byam Shaw art schools in London. Since leaving Art school in 1979 I have worked as a figurative painter.

I live with my Chinese wife Hailin in Rotherham, Yorkshire. I like cooking, eating, drinking, fishing and twanging guitars. I’ve traveled a bit. I like Mongolia and Norway. In 1987 I walked across France. We usually go to China once a year. I paint most days.

Art Career

I painted race horse portraits until 1985. This included painting trips in Australia, Hong Kong, and a six month stay in Kentucky. Notable commissions in this field were for:

The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. 1980 Christmas card
(The late) Lord Weinstock. 200th Derby Winner ‘Troy’

Over the years I have worked on a commission basis for many clients. These have included portraits, landscapes in oils and watercolours. In addition to many private individuals, I have painted for:
The Hong Kong Club
The Peninsular Hotel Group
